TRANSITION OF LEADERSHIP
On Sunday November 22nd, our Lead Pastor Dr. Walter Mueller spoke about some leadership transitions happening at Del Sol, including an intentional leadership transition coming up as he retires in early 2021. He recently marked his 35th anniversary of being our church’s Lead Pastor and now desires to hand off the leadership of the church to the next generation. Part of that includes changes in our Spanish ministry and Transmountain Campus. After much prayer, Pastor Beto Gonzalez feels led by the Lord to take over the leadership of our Spanish ministry. Pastor Oscar Perez will now take over as pastor at Transmountain while also remaining as our Online campus pastor.
When it comes to the Lead Pastor role our Church Council has prayed, planned, and thought through this transition over the last couple of years, seeking biblical counsel as well as outside advice in this process. According to the bylaws of the church, the Church Council serves as a pastoral search committee and they have decided to appoint our East Montana and Administrative Pastor Ariel Martinez to be Co-Lead Pastor of Del Sol for the past three months. During that time the members of the church will pray and then have an opportunity on Wednesday, February 24th to affirm whether they believe this is the Lord’s will for the church.
About Ariel and Lauren
Ariel is an El Paso native and his family started coming to Del Sol when he was 9 years old. Though he was raised in the church, it wasn’t until high school that he started wholeheartedly following Christ. Upon graduation he discerned a call to ministry that was confirmed by other leaders at Del Sol, and so he began a youth ministry internship at our church for almost 4 years while he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Christian Studies through Liberty University’s online learning program in 2008. For a year he served as the interim youth pastor when our church had just one location, then in 2010 he led a team that started the Northeast campus.
He pastored that campus for almost 7 years through building programs, small group launches, and many outreaches until the Church Council asked him to pray about moving over to pastor the East Montana campus. He and Lauren loved being part of the Northeast campus family but felt led by the Lord to shift to East Montana and quickly grew to love the people there too. Then in late 2019 when Pastor Walter let the Church Council know he would be retiring, the Council nominated Ariel to be a candidate to become the next Lead Pastor of Del Sol Church after having served in different roles for most of his 26 years in our church family. He should finish earning his Master of Arts in Theology degree from the B.H. Carroll Theological Institute this Spring.
Lauren is the love of Ariel’s life! She became a believer in college and has quickly grown to become an amazing woman of faith – or “the best Christian I know” as Ariel would say it. They met in 2014 through a mutual friend, started dating shortly after, and married in the summer of 2015. Lauren is a high school math teacher who taught for 8 years at Immanuel Christian School and now teaches at Clint High School. Not only is she a brilliant mathematician but she has a love for teenagers and a gift from the Lord for helping them grow to know and serve the Lord.
Though they don't have kids yet, they both love cycling, being outdoors, traveling, eating – and last year they adopted a beautiful Golden Retriever and Irish Setter mix named Madison who loves walks, treats, and belly rubs.
