BAPTISM IS THE FIRST STEP OF FAITH FOR

BELIEVERS IN JESUS CHRIST.

BAPTISM DOESN’T SAVE YOU OR CLEANSE YOU OF SIN.

IT’S JESUS WHO DOES THAT

Baptism shows that you already believe in Jesus for salvation & have let Him make you new! The moment you put your trust in Jesus Christ as your personal Savior & Lord, a total change took place in your heart – and baptism is a picture of that. It’s a one-time step of obedience that illustrates that you are identifying with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)

Through baptism you show others what God is doing in you & to make clear that you are not defined by your past, but are now living a new life as a follower of Jesus Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Like a wedding ring, it signifies an inward commitment that has been made.

WHAT DOES BAPTISM AT DEL SOL LOOK LIKE?

Because baptism is a public declaration of faith, you will be baptized during a Sunday worship gathering at your Del Sol campus. With baptism you share the joy of what Jesus has done in you with your family, friends, and church!

At Del Sol we baptize by immersion or dipping under water. That’s the only example we see throughout Scripture, it’s how Jesus Himself was baptized (Matthew 3:16), and it’s what the word “baptize” actually means.

During the worship gathering you will step into the baptism tub, a pastor will ask if you have trusted in Jesus as your Savior & Lord, then after you answer “Yes” you will be dipped fully into the water then quickly raised back up, symbolizing that you believe Jesus’ death & resurrection counts for you.

WILL I HAVE TO SAY ANYTHING AT MY BAPTISM?

No, other than answering the pastor who asks if you have trusted in Jesus. Your action of being baptized speaks louder than words, yet we do encourage you to talk with friends & family beforehand to let them know why you want to be baptized.

WHAT IF I WAS BAPTIZED AS A BABY?

Infant baptism or Christening is a beautiful, meaningful tradition in some traditions where parents make a covenant before God to raise their child in the Christian faith until their child is old enough to make his or her own personal confession of Jesus. This custom began about 300 years after the Bible was completed, or almost 400 years after the time Jesus walked the earth so it’s different from the baptism talked about in the Bible.

Remember, baptism is how you show that you understand the Gospel message of Jesus Christ & have chosen to make a personal commitment to Him as your Savior, Lord, and Friend. That is something a baby cannot do. However, for you to be baptized now that you do believe in Jesus is a beautiful way to honor the commitment your parents made when you were little.

If you were baptized as a baby & confirmed as a child, we believe the teaching of Scripture is clear that you should get baptized by immersion now that you believe in Jesus for yourself.

WHAT SHOULD I DO FOR MY BAPTISM?

First, get excited & invite others to be there to celebrate with you! Let them know they can sit up front to get a good view & take photos. Then on the day of your baptism please show up 20 minutes before the start of the worship gathering in which you will be baptized; a greeter or usher will show you where to go.

We ask you not to not wear white or light-colored clothing for your baptism. It’s best to wear a colored t-shirt & shorts along with flip-flops, and bring a towel & change of clothes for after your baptism.

CAN SOMEONE OTHER THAN A PASTOR BAPTIZE ME?

Yes! If they have also been baptized as a believer in Jesus, you can ask a spouse, parent, your small group leader, or someone else to baptize you. They won’t have to say anything either, just perform the dunking under water.

WHAT ABOUT BAPTISM FOR KIDS?

If your child has made a personal commitment to trust in Jesus as their Savior & Lord, then we want to help them take their next step of faith too! For kids, we first want them to attend our Basic Beliefs for Kids class along with a parent. There they will learn the basics of what it means to follow Jesus, making sure they are ready to get baptized.

If your child is interested in getting baptized, please let us know by clicking the button below to let us know, so we can contact you with more details about the next Basic Beliefs for Kids class.
